One of the worst fears that anyone would have is ending up with a medical emergency where they’d have to call 911 whether it is regarding themselves or a loved one. However, when there is a minor issue whether it is an injury or a minor medical issue that crops up, you don’t need to do that and you could hope at the very least to go to the doctor if it worsens. And sometimes you would ignore it completely.
And if the issue regards your eyes, you may not even think about looking into it if it is minor such as having irritated eyes. You may think it is allergies or something of that nature. However, you never want to put anything off regarding eye issues because the last thing you want to risk is vision loss. You have to realize there are non-traumatic eye problems that can always worsen which is why you never want to delay medical attention. If you do delay medical attention, then you will not want to reap the consequences.
There Is One Eye Condition That You Do Not Want To Ignore
There is one particular eye condition that you do not want to ignore as you may not think anything of it at the time. However, it does indicate there are plenty of red flags even though you may not see it that way. Even though you may not consider eye conditions a serious medical emergency to the point of having to call 911, there is one that you do not want to ignore. That eye condition is known as acute angle-closure glaucoma or AACG. That is one eye condition that requires intervention right away.
How Do You Know If You Have AACG?
You will know when the iris of the eye protrudes to the point that it blocks the drainage angle, which the fluid which is known as the aqueous humor is not able to circulate through the eye. Therefore, there is a lot of pressure build-up which can be dangerous. Even though many individuals develop angle-closure glaucoma over time that does not need immediate medical attention, if it is acute, or suddenly happens, it does.
Other ocular conditions that need immediate medical attention such as a detached retina or chemical burns in the eye should never be delayed either. But AACG is one that you may not even consider. And if you are worried you could have that, you must not drive yourself to the hospital as your vision will be impacted. If you do not have a family member or friend who can drive you, you will need to call an Uber or a cab to take you to the hospital.
What Are The Symptoms Of AACG?
If you do not know the symptoms to look for, then you will not know what they are if you could have AACG. You may end up with a severe headache with blurred vision, and you may also see halos around bright lights that are rainbow in color. You could also develop nausea and vomiting with it. And even without nausea and vomiting, if you have the other noted symptoms, you cannot neglect it because there is a high chance that it is AACG. Those who are over 60 and are of Asian descent are more likely to end up with the condition.
The good news is there are treatments for AACG to prevent blindness from happening. However, if you do end up ignoring it, you will end up becoming blind. Your vision is a blessing that you never want to lose, and that is why you want to take excellent care of your eyes!
