You see memes circulating on social media about how the message you are currently sending online is being done as you are sitting on the toilet. And you laugh and nod your head at the meme because you can relate to it so well. And there is a good chance that you saw that meme while you were in the bathroom. That is because the role of your smartphone has replaced the role of the newspaper or magazine in the bathroom.
You sit on the toilet and you sit on there longer than you need to because you are too busy surfing the web on your phone, or you are scrolling through your social media. You may also be texting a friend or a relative back and forth as you are doing your business. However, as much as the phone is keeping you occupied and busy as you are doing your bathroom duties, is it really a good idea to use it in the bathroom? The simple answer to that question is no. It is not a good idea, and you will be fine without getting stimulation from any electronics when you are in the bathroom. You can always come back to it when you are finished doing your business. Let’s go over why you will want to stop using your smartphone when you are sitting on the toilet.
Think About All Of The Bacteria
Discoveries about how much bacteria found on the phone made are disturbing as there are more bacteria on phones than there are on the toilet seat. One of the types of bacteria found on smartphones is E.Coli, which is from your intestines. If you are taking a #2 and you are wiping in between touching your phone, you can imagine how that bacteria is being transferred from your hands to your phone. And even if you are not wiping, if you flush while you are still sitting, the toilet plume can go through your legs and onto your phone.
You Can Get Hemorrhoids
If you are spending a lot of time sitting on the toilet because you are too busy using your phone, then that means you are adding too much pressure on your organs as you sit for long periods. That will increase your chances of getting hemorrhoids which are going to be a painful consequence. It does not matter whether you are purposely straining. Sitting for prolonged periods on the toilet in a hunched over position will increase your chances of getting those hemorrhoids.
You Can Hurt Your Back
If you are sitting hunched over for long periods on the toilet, then you are in a bad sitting position which will hurt your back in the end. That can cause your spine to go out of alignment and you could end up with not just back pain but with back problems. If you end up having to get help from your chiropractor often and you are the type that uses the phone in the bathroom, that is likely why. Even if you sit in a hunched-over position several times a day, and you sit properly at other times, you are still harming your back.
It can reduce our thinking capacity
If you’re among the people who use cell phones in the toilet, you can check if you’re thinking capacity has been limited, especially while working on a problem. Cell phones certainly interrupt your thinking and concentration, whether you’ve switched off your phone or you’re not using them. Because your mind needs the valuable break you often waste by using phones in toilets, it’s hazardous for your thinking capacity. Hence, we need some time without the distraction of cell phones to prevent this certain risk.
You can develop pelvic floor dysfunction
Problems for your muscles can upturn more when you spend extended time on the toilet while being diverted by your cellphones. You shouldn’t feel surprised if you find your organs such as the vagina, bladder, and bowl slipping, as the pelvis floor muscle is unable to support them for a drawn-out time. Pelvic floor dysfunction can be an anticipated outcome of using phones while you’re on the toilet. It mainly happens due to the uncomfortable posture you get while seated on the toilet, particularly if you’re bent over your cells for an extended time.
You Are Becoming Too Reliant On The Phone
You already see how much physical health risks you are increasing for yourself when you use your phone in the bathroom consistently. That can also increase your mental health risk as well. If you keep using your phone in the bathroom, then you are becoming more dependent and reliant on the phone. Therefore, it is becoming an addiction if you cannot help yourself but need to use your phone even when you are in the bathroom.
If you are finding yourself too addicted to the phone to the point that you cannot stand the thought of not being able to use it when you are in the bathroom, then you need to get help with it. You can go for a few minutes without using your phone as you do your business in the bathroom. If you can manage to do that, then your health will improve drastically, and you will also not be spreading harmful bacteria around either which helps eliminate the gross factor as well.
