In order to qualify for the Guiness World Book of Records, they were required to stay in lip contact without a break of any kind. Unlike other contests, there were no five minute time-outs, or naps. If they ate, it had to be through a straw so their lips could stay together, and bathroom breaks were done as a duo. With someone to witness that they didn’t separate.
Amazingly enough, the couple who had been together for a number of years, managed to stay the course for a lip bruising 31 hours, 30 minutes and 30 seconds, over July 6-7, 2005.
